ACT has successfully brought back motion pictures to the historic Capitol Theatre with its Capitol Cinema programming.
In 2007, ACT invested in 35mm projection and sound equipment and began showing first-run movies from March through December during ACT’s winter break.
The goal of Capitol Cinema programming is to feature movies that typically won’t come to Aberdeen via the existing venues. This gives the community a chance to see Academy Award nominated films, international titles and film festivals.
The investment into film projection coincided with the South Dakota Film Festival’s inaugural event in 2007. The Capitol is a stellar backdrop for the state’s film festival. Learn more about the SDFF.
Capitol Cinema is included in Phase III of the ongoing Capitol Theatre Improvement Campaign. In 2013, ACT installed digital film equipment in the Capitol Theatre.
Did you know? ACT is still raising funds for a new digital theater? We are raising funds to complete a new 90-seat digital theater in support space that will show movies all year long. Continued Phase III fund-raising allows for the purchase of state-of-the-art digital film equipment and completion of a new small theater area for film and theater productions. ACT is completing this project with one time gifts and pledge over the next three years.
Please consider helping us with a tax-deductible contribution to complete this digital theater. Download the Capitol Improvement Campaign Pledge Form and return it to
